Hello again!
It was a BEAUTIFUL hot day in Maine! Sol's 2nd day at his summer play school... he LOVES it. I LOVE that he LOVES it. So, all good. The diggers have been digging - retaining wall taking shape. Cottage area has been torn up for septic pipes and electric lines... looks like a construction zone (and it is) but all will mellow soon and will go back to quiet riverside retreat.
I know some of you (myself included) like to keep things super old school... for the sake of history and character and also simplicity. Alex and I both lean toward less is much much more... however, in the case of the cottages (our "camps" by the river here in Maine), we have decided that certain upgrades were crucial if we want to #1) have future rental potential and #2) have our friends and family truly enjoy in these "guest rooms". Most people who have visited have been hardy enough to deal with the very rustic accommodations that we have been able to provide over the years... and those that haven't - well, they just haven't had the BEST time EVER.

We hope to always have happy guests and so that is why we are adding creature comforts such as a flushing toilet, shower and sink in the bath house and electricity to all buildings. The cottages really are an extension of our house... they WERE our house for almost 5 years and now they are the guest rooms of our new house. The main house was built to be a compact 2-3 bedroom home without many guest spaces as we already have those spaces down on the river. And they are sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!
Anyhoopers - here are some shots from today... lots of digging, LOADS of dirt and holes... but also LOTS of progress. The word of the week!
XO

Looks incredible. I can't wait to see it all! We might have a tag sale at the end of summer. I'll have to list my items for you to see if you can use anything.
See you soon!
